Here are 4 tips to help keep your teeth healthy during the holidays.
Avoid too much Candy and Sweets – This one is a no brainer, but with the holidays it is very easy to over do it. Candies are affect our dental health in two ways. One is the sugar, and two is the hard candies that we can chip our teeth on. We are saying avoid candy all together, but make sure to eat it in moderation. Another thing to avoid too much of is the sweets. This can include pies, cookies, icecream and cake.
Snack Smart – This piggy backs on the above tip. When you are hungry and looking for a mid meal snack, opt for healthy non sugar based foods. Foods to snack on are almonds, fresh veggies, or fresh fruit. This can be hard during the holidays, especially with all the awesome deserts that are available.
Keep a Routine – Keeping a routine is very important during the holidays. The holidays are generally are times that are far from routine. We have family visiting or we are traveling which makes it hard to keep our normal routine. This routine should include making time for your dental health. Making sure you brush and floss often.
Prepare ahead of time – Making sure you plan and prepare ahead of time is key to making sure you keep your dental health a priority. Planning out what you will pack when you make the trip to go see family. Making sure you to not forget your toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste when packing. This is important since many stores do not have normal hours during the holidays which could leave you without one of the essential items needed to brush your teeth.
