Cosmetic And Restorative Services

Whether you suffer from chipped or broken teeth, uneven teeth or missing teeth, many cosmetic procedures can give you back a healthy, even smile and help you regain your confidence in showing off your smile.

If you have a tooth that is only slightly chipped, dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure commonly used for rapid and simple handling.  This is an easy solution that is relatively inexpensive, although bonding material is not as durable as porcelain and isn’t suitable for every circumstance.  When used appropriately and cared for properly, dental bonding should last 5 to 10 years.

Porcelain veneers are another cosmetic dentistry procedure that is typically used if you are dissatisfied with the shape of a particular tooth and its appearance.  A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of porcelain, about the thickness of a fingernail, specially sculpted for your mouth and bonded to the front of a particular tooth.  Porcelain veneers are very durable and are usually the method of choice for reshaping a particular healthy tooth.  Cared for properly, they can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years or even longer.

If you have a severely cracked, broken or very decayed tooth, a porcelain crown is likely the best procedure available.  This is similar to a porcelain veneer but covers the entire tooth instead of only the visible front portion of the tooth. Crowns are more suitable when the tooth is in bad condition and when veneers would be insufficient to handle the reshaping required.  Crowns can also be used after a root canal is done. Porcelain crowns, like porcelain veneers, can last for many, many years.

If you have a tooth that is decayed at the root and which needs a complete replacement, you may need a dental implant.  This is a complete replacement of the natural tooth root and is anchored into the jawbone permanently.  This serves as a foundation for a permanent or removable replacement tooth.  Dental implants are the most permanent solution for tooth replacement and, except in very rare cases, implants should never need to be replaced.
